The Truth Behind the Infamous Fish Tank Platform Shoes
The Truth Behind the Infamous Fish Tank Platform ShoesThe Truth Behind the Infamous Fish Tank Platform ShoesThe fish tank as decorative art has, at different times, enjoyed wide popularity, with aquariums as wall murals and even toilets. But fish tank as shoes? Back in the 70s disco era, fish were briefly subjected to physical injury and death (as well as humiliation, along with really bad music) when someone came up with the idea for the disco fish platform shoe. One could plop a live goldfish into the platform sole or heel, which welches composed of clear acrylic or Lucite. Myth or Reality? While many are convinced this was an urban myth, I had a friend who owned a pair of these. (Which largely explains why she soon became my ex-friend.)The legend comes from the fact that no seems able to produce an actual pair of these shoes or even a picture of them from their brief heyday in the 1970s. The lack of evidence could be because the shoes were not mass-manufactured. Disco fans sou ght them out at small, boutique specialty stores. The shoes were not, as some of the myths purport, sent from the factory with the fish already sealed in the heel. Obviously, if that were the case, the fish would be pretty much guaranteed to die within the day for lack of oxygen. Instead, the clear platform heels or soles were either removable or had some kind of flap at the back that lifted so that the wearer could fill with whatever he or she wanted. People report filling the heels with teddy bears, gumballs, marbles or crinkled colored tissue paper. A few chose live fish, even inserting colored gravel and water plants for the whole aquarium effect. Theoretically, you would return your traveling fish to its aquarium after your evening of revelry. Realistically, it would have been a miracle if your fish survived the night. Some former disco club-goers even remember seeing shoes break open and spill their contents on the dance floor. Not surprisingly, animal rights activists were up in arms about this (thankfully) short-lived trend, which resulted in the deaths of many goldfish from all the jostling on the dance floor. Reliving the Glory Days The legend has lived on in the entertainment industry the joke (as it were) often being that the heel-bound fish end up dead. Tony Randall apparently wore them in a 1970s TV show. Also in the 1970s, in the cop thriller TV series Starsky and Hutch, the jive-talking character Huggy Bear wore them in an episode. They appeared in the 1988 Keenan Ivory Wayans movie Im Gonna Git You Sucka. Even the Simpsons featured the infamous Disco Fish Shoes, worn with flair by the Disco Stu. Nows Your Chance Well, guess what... the disco fish tank shoe is making (eek) a comeback You can actually purchase these from ?Amazon.com and other sites that feature costume shoes. However, I am happy to report that the live goldfish have been replaced by fake ones. They even come with a fake green water plant. I am sure the goldfish of the w orld are breathing a collective sigh of relief knowing that they will no longer be needlessly subjected to untimely deaths, to the strains of Do the Hustle.

Most college alumni associations have an alumni database for networking purposes. Contact your alma mater to see if your alumni association has such a database. Many employers like to recruit candidates from their colleges, so take advantage of those connections. Similarly, be sure to join any alumni associations run by your prior employers. These associations help former employees stay connected and help each other with future career paths. If you belong to any professional associations, put your professional information on their member databases. Employers often look for candidates on professional associations related to their fields. Limit your personal online presence. Now that you have put all of your professional information online, be sure to make any personal information private if you do not want employers to see it. The job of a good story is to engage and inform, and your resume is no different; you should write it using the kind of active, exciting language in our training coordinator resume sample. It begins with a summary that invites reader interest by making confident statements of the jobseekers strengths and particular areas of expertise. This summary replaces the outdated objective statement that hiring managers are tired of seeing. Instead of telling employers what you want, you should show them what you can do. With the right skills, you can attract the job offer you want without having to fall back on obsolete objective statements. The skills sections should be no less engaging, with keywords taken from your target job descriptions that depict your qualifications in a concise format. These keywords should be relevant and highly specific, such as the terms resource coordination and large group presentations used in the training coordinator resume sample. The work history section, however, is where the real power shows. Describe your employment history in brief, well-crafted bullets that use action-oriented language. Not sure what action-oriented language is? Take a look at the training coordinator resume sample. The very first bullet reads, Maintains a running series of off-site training courses. The first word in that bullet is an action verb, which is a verb that replaces passive language with strong wording showing active involvement and investment in each task.Ready to round things out? Then take a look at the education section. You, more than most, know exactly how important a solid educational foundation is, with a good mix of degree education, training courses, and certifications. You also know that as important as your education is, a simple description of it has the most impact. Format this section cleanly and neatl y with nothing more than the degree or course name, institution, and dates. Why You Need a Strong Training Coordinator ResumeAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the United States will add only 2,300 management-level training roles between now and 2024. That leaves a narrow window of opportunity, with far more candidates than available jobs creating a bottleneck in which only a few jobseekers will make it through the gatekeepers for serious consideration. In order to beat the hordes out of the gate and pull ahead of the rush, you need a solid, well-written resume like our training coordinator resume sample to make you stand out from the crowd. The resume is simple yet informative, clearly organized, and presents the kind of impactful information that stays fixed in the readers mind. The term dress to impress is just as applicable to your resume, and you should dress it up to impress hiring managers with your qualifications.Costly Training Coordinator Resume Mistakes To AvoidQ uality control is essential in a good resume, and youll want to curate your information to include only the most pertinent details relevant to your target jobs. Avoid including unnecessary information or older career history that doesnt show your long-term progression. You should also avoid getting so bogged down in the details of the courses and workshops you taught that you forget to discuss their impact. Always detail the results of your accomplishments and the ways your contributions to training program development and management improved the organization. For instance, our training coordinator resume sample mentions reducing training costs by outsourcing portions of class preparation.Lastly, dont forget to focus on your managerial skills. Part of being a training coordinator is taking ownership of the training programs youre involved in, so you should combine a solid mix of management capabilities with on-the-ground, hands-on training talents.
